Why I made Holy Balm
I’ve been tattooing for over 18 years.
Every time a client asked me which aftercare product to use, I hesitated.
Not because there weren’t options.
But because none of them felt truly right.
Some products advertised panthenol and “healing power”,
yet clogged pores and caused breakouts.
When acne forms on a healing tattoo, it often bursts,
pulling ink out with it and leaving patchy or damaged results.
Others leaned into “natural” language,
using rosehip or lavender for emotional appeal,
but relied on essential oils or unstable oils that can irritate open skin.
In reality, many of these were skincare products with a pleasant scent
not tattoo aftercare.
I couldn’t find a product that focused purely on what a tattoo actually needs.
So I made one.
About Holy Balm
Holy Balm was developed with one clear focus:
to support tattooed skin during healing without adding unnecessary stimulation or complexity.
Tattoo healing is a natural biological process.
Aftercare products do not replace that process, but they can influence how smoothly it progresses.
Every ingredient in Holy Balm was chosen for how it behaves on fresh, healing skin, rather than for marketing appeal.
Ingredients
Plant-Derived Squalane (Olive Squalane)
The core ingredient of Holy Balm is plant-derived squalane.
It closely resembles the lipids naturally present in human skin, which allows it to integrate easily without feeling foreign or heavy. On freshly tattooed skin, this matters. Products that feel unfamiliar or resistant can increase friction and discomfort during application.
Squalane spreads evenly, settles quickly, and leaves a light, non-sticky protective layer with a soft, velvety finish that does not interfere with the skin’s natural repair process. It helps create an environment where healing can proceed without added stress.
Meadowfoam Seed Oil
Meadowfoam seed oil was selected for its exceptional stability.
During tattoo healing, consistency is more important than intensity. Oils that oxidise easily can change over time, both in texture and in how they interact with the skin. Meadowfoam seed oil remains stable even with repeated exposure to air and skin.
Its role is to help maintain the integrity of the protective layer over longer periods, reducing the need for frequent reapplication and keeping the skin feeling balanced.
Shea Butter & Mango Butter
Shea butter and mango butter provide body and flexibility to Holy Balm.
As tattooed skin begins to dry and form scabs, maintaining elasticity becomes important. These butters help soften the surface and reduce the tight, pulling sensation that often appears during healing.
They are included in refined forms and carefully balanced within the formula to support comfort without creating a thick or suffocating layer.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil has a unique structure that closely resembles liquid wax esters found naturally in the skin.
Because of this, it sits comfortably on the surface, helping to reduce moisture loss while remaining breathable. On healing tattoos, this balance is important. The skin benefits from protection, but excessive occlusion can feel uncomfortable or lead to congestion.
MCT Oil (Coconut-Derived)
While whole coconut oil can be too heavy for some skin types, MCT oil is a purified fraction with a much lighter profile.
It improves spreadability and reduces drag when applying balm to sensitive skin. This helps minimise physical irritation during application, especially on larger or more tender tattooed areas.
Rice Bran Wax & Candelilla Wax
These two plant-based waxes define the structure of Holy Balm.
They create a thin, durable layer that helps protect healing skin from excessive dryness and external friction. At the same time, they allow the balm to remain lightweight and reduce transfer onto clothing.
This balance makes it possible for many clients to apply Holy Balm only morning and night, rather than repeatedly throughout the day
Bisabolol (Plant-Derived)
Bisabolol is a plant-derived ingredient commonly used to support skin comfort.
In Holy Balm, it is included at a modest level to help reduce irritation associated with physical stress on the skin. It is not intended as a treatment or medicinal component, but as a gentle supporting element within the overall formula.
Natural Vitamin E
Vitamin E is included to help maintain the stability of the plant oils used in Holy Balm.
By slowing oxidation, it helps preserve the formula’s consistency over time. Its role is structural rather than corrective, and it does not introduce additional activity on the skin.
